k so yes. russian lit. basically i'm reading works by russian authors (who are AWESOME) and no, sadly i haven't done nabokov, nor will be doing in this course. but i did kataev, platonov and my new favourite book is the master and margarita by mikhail bulgakov. everyone has to READ THIS BOOK AT LEAST ONCE IN THEIR LIFETIME i swear it's that good. it's like reading a painting, and you must read it to understand why i love it. it's very unexpected, right from the get go.

and yeah, i'm doing this because this is my advising group. i.e. basically you have a teacher who's your advisor and helps you choose courses and classes. so before we get here we choose classes and the class you get (i.e. russian lit) is the one whose teacher becomes your advisor. my teacher rocks. it's TOTALLY not like lit in singapore, he just speaks about the zeitgeist of the times and accuses people of being bourgeoise (i can spell that word now!!) and talks about how if you steal a potato plant from the kolkhoz (collective farm) you're a traitor and can be executed. i love it. for my first essay i wrote a speech denouncing e. e. cummings (who by the way writes his name as E. E. Cummings) as a Bourgeois Writer Hailing From The Dilapidated Hovel of Cambridge, Massechussetts.
